Bald Eagles

    • are the proud national bird symbol of the United States

 

    • are a member of the Accipitridae family; which also includes hawks, kites, and old-world vulture

 

    • primarily eat fish, carrion, smaller birds and rodents

 

    • live near bodies of water in Canada and Alaska, and in scattered locations all throughout the lower 48 states and Mexico

 

    • do not sweat, so they need to use other cooling methods such as perching in the shade, panting, and holding their wings away from their body

 

    • are solitary, but monogamous animals

 

    • have extraordinary eyesight (3-4 times better than humans!)

 

  • can rotate their heads almost 270 degrees
